Liberty Week at Battleship Cove | April 19-23, 2010
During Massachusetts school vacation week, April 19-23, 2010, families visiting Battleship Cove will be able to take advantage of discounted general admission (Adults $12; Children 6-12 $7 and under 6 No Charge). FREE hands-on activities including all-new scavenger hunt, learn how to spell your name out using signal flags, knot-tying workshops, flag folding demonstrations, and more. PLUS be one of the 1st 100 kids to pass through our gates and receive a FREE authentic Navy uniform top.

Families are invited to enjoy a ride on the Fall River Carousel, which will be in special operation from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. all week long (rides $1 each or 7 for $5).

Mon, 4/19 | WWI LIVING HISTORY
Hear living history re-enactor Russ Kirby tell stories of American infantry soldiers who lived and fought in Europe. See the uniforms, equipment, and weapons that an infantry soldier had available to him in combat.

Tues, 4/20 | WWII STAMP WORKSHOP
Henry Lukas, Director of Education for the Spellman Museum of Stamps & POstal History, will provide a brief history of postage stamps and the post office, with a focus on WWII. Visitors will make a collection of US stamps to take home.

Wed, 4/21 | WOMEN PROTECTING US
Learn about the contributions of women in war with Laurie Carlson, the creator of our new women's exhibit, "WOMEN PROTECTING US." Guests will meet in the Wardroom annex for a brief introduction and will be escorted down to the exhibit on the second deck.

Thurs, 4/22 | KNOT TYING
Learn to tie nautical knots with Battleship Cove's knot-tying instructor, David Goldrick.

Fri, 4/23 | WWI LIVING HISTORY

Free Daily Activites
Scavenger Hunt: Explore the battleship, destroyer,a nd submarine with Battleship Cove's Liberty Week Scavenger Hunt! As you travel through passageways and compartments, you will search for answers to 15 questions about our proud vessels. Bring your completed scavenger hunt worksheet to the gift shop for a free prize.

Knot Know-How: Each visitor will receive a knot-tying booklet and a complimentary peice of line (rope). See the schedule above for guide knot instruction.

Celebrating Our Flag: Learn hot to fold the American Flag and the special meaning behind each fold in a special booklet entitled Celebrating Our Flag.

Letters to Heroes: Write letters to our heroes in the military with staionery provided in the Wardroom on the Battleship Massachusetts. "Mail" your letter in the original post office on the second deck, and we will send them overseas for you!

Orientation Video: View a 20-minute film about the history of the USS Massachusetts. Playing all day in Newberry Hall (the PT Boat Building).

WWII Disney Cartoons: Enjoy a special selection of Disney cartoons from the 1940s. Playing all day in the Student orientation Center on the second deck on board USS Massachusetts.

FLAG DAY AT BATTLESHIP COVE:
Do you know your flag etiquette? On Flag Day, June 14, come to Battleship Cove and learn how to fold the American Flag, the significance of each fold, interesting facts about our flag, and display procedures. Bring your old, worn flags to Battleship Cove and dispose of them the legal way.

MERCURY ON THE RISE: Cool off this summer while you learn to sail at Battleship Cove. The museum offers sailing lessons and Mercury sailboat rentals to qualified youths and adults. Click here to learn more.
