Research at Battleship Cove

Before Dr. Robert Ballard and National Geographic set out to locate JFK's legendary PT109, they visited Battleship Cove to conduct vital research on the Mosquito Fleet. When the History Channel recently needed material for a submarine-themed episode of "This Week in History," they came to Battleship Cove to film USS Lionfish. And when an assortment of naval gunnery experts recently wanted to research 16-inch guns, they climbed on board USS Massachusetts for a firsthand view.

Whether you're writing a term paper on the Cuban Missile Crisis, or filming a documentary on the submarine force in World War II, Battleship Cove offers a wealth of information for you. Explore our exhibits up close to get a hands-on feel of life in the service, or explore our oral history archives to learn about history from the men and women who made it.

THE SON ALSO RISES: If any man epitomizes patriotism, it is Senator John McCain. A distinguished veteran, statesman, and family man, this retired naval aviator has dedicated his life to national service, as his father and grandfather, both four-star admirals, did before him.
